Except in big cities like Lasa and Cinin, most children, especially those in pastoral areas, don’t attend schools.  Desolate areas, affected by factors like plateau topography and severe climates, are often off the map of governmental infrastructure and consequently desperate for foreign aids and domestic auxiliary.  However, many needed auxiliary programs like “Burning Oil Porfect” or “Elementary Schools of Hope” have yet to spread to these areas. That’s why our plan includes building elementary schools in impoverished areas.

The number of children who don’t attend schools in Thrangu Monastery area is estimated to be around 200.  Each school in our plan will accommodate 50 children split into 5 classrooms along with 15 rooms in the students’ dorm, 4 rooms in teachers’ dorm, a cafeteria, bathrooms, playground, warehouse, etc….  The estimated cost for the project is around 500,000RMB.  The schools, upon completion, will be managed and supervised by both the Chinese Department of Education and the Thrangu Monastery.  The project is tentatively slated to start in 2007.
